At The Global Child, we believe that real change happens when education, leadership, and community come together. We provide bilingual education that empowers students with the skills to succeed, nurture leadership through mentorship and real-world training, and support families through outreach and workshops. This holistic model helps children rise from poverty and become leaders in their communities.
Why We Exist?
In Cambodia, too many children wake up each day not with the promise of school, but with the burden of survival. They collect recyclables, sell vegetables, or beg on the streets—not because they lack dreams, but because they lack opportunity.
Generations of poverty, conflict, and inequality have left deep scars. Families struggle to meet basic needs, and education often becomes a luxury they simply can’t afford. Children eager to learn are held back by financial hardship, social barriers, and the urgent need to help support their families.
At The Global Child, we believe these children deserve more.
That’s why we provide access to bilingual education, mentorship, and life skills that empower students to break the cycle of poverty. Through our unique $1-a-day sponsorship model, we offer families financial relief while teaching students how to manage money, save for the future, and invest in their own growth.

Sokmao: From the Riverbank to MasterChef
Born into poverty in Phnom Penh, Sokmao’s childhood began at 5 AM, not with school, but with collecting plastic and selling vegetables to survive. Education was a distant dream until 2004, when The Global Child (TGC) offered him a life-changing opportunity.
Sokmao embraced learning, trading laborious work for dedicated study. After graduating from TGC, he received sponsorship to attend the prestigious Paul DuBrule School for Hospitality and Tourism in Siem Reap. There, his natural talent for culinary arts blossomed.
His journey culminated in a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to compete on MasterChef Cambodia. For four intense months, Sokmao battled Cambodia’s finest chefs, showcasing his passion, innovation, and unwavering determination cultivated through years of hard work.
During his 15 episodes on MasterChef Khmer, he utilized his skills, broad knowledge, and creativity to make delicious culinary dishes for the judges. Follow Sokmao’s journey on MasterChef Khmer.
Chariya: From Empty Stomach to Aspiring Diplomat
Growing up in a small Cambodian village, Chariya faced daily hardships, often attending school on an empty stomach and lacking basic supplies. Yet, inspired by her mother’s belief in education, she was determined to learn.
Her life transformed when The Global Child provided her with essential school materials, igniting a beacon of hope. With TGC’s unwavering support, Chariya excelled academically, fueled by her dream of becoming a diplomat. As she often says, “TGC is my light,” a testament to the hope, support, and belief in her potential that TGC provided, far beyond just physical supplies.
