My name is Pengkong, and I’m a proud alumnus of The Global Child (TGC).
Before joining TGC, life was a struggle. In 2013, I was attending ChonLong Primary School, a public school in Siem Reap. My family’s difficult financial situation had me worried that I might have to drop out after Grade 6 and find work in Thailand.
Thankfully, that same year, I was accepted into The Global Child. As a nonprofit organization in Siem Reap, TGC provides underprivileged children with access to education. Everything changed for me once I joined. I had the opportunity to study a variety of subjects, including English, music, karate, computer programming, and leadership. I also received nutritious meals and a weekly stipend, which helped support my family.
I spent eight years at TGC, graduating in 2022. By then, I had gained not only knowledge but also the confidence to pursue higher education. After graduating, I enrolled at Build Bright University, where I’m currently in my fifth year, majoring in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Compared to many of my university classmates, I feel I have a significant advantage. The valuable skills I gained at TGC—like English proficiency and computer literacy—along with the self-confidence I developed, have set me up for success.
