At The Global Child, volunteers are not just helpers—they are the backbone of our educational mission. Year after year, we rely on passionate, skilled individuals from around the world to bring knowledge, creativity, and compassion into our classrooms. T

Whether you’re teaching English, leading a STEM workshop, or mentoring students in life skills, your presence makes a lasting impact. Volunteers work side-by-side with our Cambodian educators, enriching the curriculum and introducing new perspectives that broaden our students’ horizons. We proudly collaborate with impactful programs such as the former Minerva Fellows program at Union College and EurasiaNet, whose dedicated participants have played a vital role in advancing our mission.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Teaching English, math, science, or foreign languages
  • Leading workshops in STEM, health, or the arts
  • Supporting extracurriculars like soccer, dance, and music
  • Developing new programs or partnerships

Whether you’re joining us in Siem Reap or contributing from afar, your time and talents can make a lasting difference. In-person volunteers are asked to commit at least two weeks; virtual volunteers, two lessons.

 

The Global Child is not only a school but a real family for every person entering this house in the center of Siem Reap. Older students help the younger ones to become better students as siblings would and teachers protect, encourage, and raise these children to give them a better future. 

I spent one year at TGC, teaching English and French but most of it sharing everyday life with amazing children, full of creativity, happiness, intelligence, and cuteness! This experience showed me how important education is to building a brighter future. Cambodia is lucky to have people so motivated to make things better, and I’m very lucky to have been welcomed into the TGC Family!

I had the opportunity to teach French and English at The Global Child for a year, and this experience will always have a special place in my heart.
As a teacher myself, I can truly say that the students at TGC are some of the sweetest I have ever met. They are kind, respectful, and incredibly generous. They always share what they have and what they know with others. No one is left behind and everyone is treated equally. This reflects one of the school’s most important goals: giving every student a good education so they can have the same opportunities in life as anyone else.
Since I still live in Siem Reap, I sometimes come back for school outings and activities. Every time I visit, the students are so happy to see me. It also reminds me how often they talk about former volunteers and the wonderful memories they made together. They never forget the people who came to teach and support them.
Being a volunteer at The Global Child is so much more than just teaching children. It means becoming part of a family. You are a mentor, a friend, and a teacher all at the same time. And this connection doesn’t end when you leave. Once you have been part of this school, the students will never forget you. If you cross their path even once, you will always remain in their hearts — just as they will always remain in mine.

I volunteered at The Global Child from 2017-2018. Unlike most Minerva Fellows sent to Cambodia, I have had the unique opportunity to teach these amazing students a second time, which has helped me realize how important a good teacher is. The fellowship taught me that a teacher not only has the power to distribute knowledge, but to inspire. I am fortunate enough to have found early on in my life an itch I just can’t scratch, which is design and storytelling. I think my fellowship has taught me that I do have the unique ability to inspire others, and this has become a main focus of mine as I navigate this strange thing we all call life.
